Day 5 + Overall Reflection

Day 5

Final day in Hiroshima. The only things we did were pack, buy souvenirs, and ride the Shinkansen back home. In the morning, Kaho and I went downstairs to eat breakfast. After we ate, we went back upstairs to do something last minute packing, and met the rest of the group downstairs in the lobby. We left the hotel and walked to Hiroshima Station, where we were allowed some time to buy souvenirs and buy food for the train ride. When it was time, we got on the Shinkansen, where mostly everyone slept. It was very relaxing.

Overall reflection

Hiroshima was great. I loved sightseeing there; Himeji Castle and Miyajima were very beautiful. I’m also glad to have learned of the effects of the a-bomb. Since I was raised in the States, I’ve only learned the Americans’ side of the war. However, after hearing Matsubara-san’s story, and going to the museums and seeing what had happened, I have learned the things that one bomb had done to thousands of innocent people.

Highlights of the trip:

-Himeji Castle: I’m so glad it was sunny all week; it would have sucked if it was cloudy/ rainy. Himeji Castle was so pretty!!!

-First Hotel: I liked the Japanese side of the room :) Kaho, Stella, Rika, and I played card games—it was really fun! The food was also good...

-Lecture by Matsubara-san, going to the museums, eating at the okonomiyaki shop

-Shukkeien: Gosh it was so pretty!! I want to go again :)

-Miyajima: It was so pretty. The bike ride was really fun. Dinner after that with Kazune and Resa was fun as well.
