Hiroshima day 5 and overall reflection
The only thing we got to on our last day in Hiroshima, was to eat
breakfast and go home.
Anjali and I were the first to get to the breakfast 'Äìsecondwas Ms.De
Vries :) I had some salad, eggs, bacons, and nori. Since we had
ourbreakfast early, we went back to our room and watched TV/slept after
eating. Then we left our hotel, Hotel New Hiroden, and walked toHiroshima station.
There, we had some time to buy souvenirs and lunch. I boughtsome
momiji-manjyu for my family although I had some already from Miyajima.
(Ithough more of them would be better :D) After a while, we went on
theshinkansen to get back to Shin-Yokohama station. Overall, the trip to Hiroshima was better than I expected; Iwas not that
excited to be there before the field studies since I'Äôve been therelast
year with my family. Last time I visited Hiroshima, I went to the Peace Park andMiyajima like
this time, but I stayed at each of the places for less time, since the main
reason we went to Hiroshima was to visit my grandfather'Äôs gravethere and
not sightseeing. However, this time I got to stay at the place for alonger
time for looking in to the place in more depth, with some guidance
andexplanation of the history of Hiroshima. Listening to stories of the
time theA-bomb was dropped from Matsubara-san, the victim of the Little
Boy, was agreat experience for us to understand how much damage it gave to
Hiroshima andthe people there physically and mentally, by only one bomb.
The Memorial PeaceMuseum taught me a lot about the effect of the Little
Boy: the short-termeffects and the long-term effects. Although hearing and
seeing about the A-bombwas depressing, I believe that it was a great
opportunity for us to know howmuch a war can destroy human life and
society. Other than getting to know the history of Hiroshima, theplace was nice as
well. We got to go hiking in the mountains, which we couldnever do in
Tokyo. Sightseeing at Miyajima was great too: the floating toriiand the
actual shrine of Itsukushima, the deer, and the beach. I'Äôve alsonoticed
that the night sky in Tokyo is brighter than in Hiroshima after comingback
home. When we went to the Peace Park in the night for stargazing, we
wereable to see little stars that we cannot see in Tokyo.
expected (and better than now being back in Tokyo, dying of
boredom).I'Äôll love to be there again, especially Miyajima where we went
biking :)
