to rap things up, this year's field studies was a very tiring but interesting trip! i mean, we're the first to travel so high up the mountains,and experience tough (and i mean REAL TOUGH) hiking.
its been a good experience, and im glad i got to know both the pros and cons of remote areas like iya. now im ready to relax and rest my body during the breakkk:D
the last day of field studies was basically traveling. bt we stopped by the kazura-bashi, a very famous bridge in iya. unfortunately, we cudn't walk on it..:(
thursday was a chill day. we visited the 'chiyori' and learnd how people live in such a remote area. soba is the most popular source of food from after war since iya is geographically difficult to harvest other foods such as grain and rice.
we made soba, and learned how to weave hay into ropes. we also playd jump ropes out of the ropes me wove, and had a relaxing time.
on wednesday, we hiked 11 hours!!! we had to wake up @ 4a.m., and head out @ around 5.
we hiked up to several mountains tops. one of the hardest was mt.sanrei which is 1893m tal. the view was GREAT though. the downhil after that was probably the most tiring part out of all... everyone was tired, bt we had to hike al the way down a 1893m tal mountain in a couple of hours.. we were all dead tired when we got to the bus!!
we finally gt to the top, nd staye @ a smal lodge for the night
we ate handmade (good) food atlast, nd saw the sunset, stars, nd slept weell~ it was SOOO COLD up there.... .
we hiked up the tsurugisann!!!
it was so- tiring...
we gt our futons out!!
tmrw i havto wakeup @ 6 and make breakfast...

we arrived @ our lodges now!!!!
we then transferred @ okayama nd went on an anpan-man train and rode to ooboke.
now we're on the bus!!!

This project was piloted during Field Studies 2008 by thirteen students of the Class of 2011 visiting Hiroshima. The students exclusively contributed to the blog via their own cellular phones. Their entries can be seen at http://yishiroshima2008.posterous.com.
In 2009, the project continues with the students from the Class of 2012, expanding beyond the Hiroshima trip. Three students/teachers from each of the Izu and Iya trips will also contribute to the project via their phones. The fifteen students going to Hiroshima will now also blog with laptops equipped with eMobile mobile broadband USB modems, sponsored by eMobile and Apple on an experimental basis.
